Meet Jadon. He got us into wrestling.

He was over 10lbs at birth and kept growing from there. By the time he entered high school he was over 6′ 5″. He was the biggest and he knew it. His history teacher who was also the assistant wrestling coach invited him to practice for some humility lessons. He loved it!

He’s been hooked on wrestling ever since.

Even as a kid he never did anything that he wasn’t making someone else participate in.

So, he recruited his sister.

She was never into programmed activities, but the coach taught her how to throw her brother and she was hooked as well.

Now, we’re wrestling parents.

Thanks a lot, Jadon.

We love and support our kids, but watching your kids struggle from the sidelines can be hard.

That’s true of parenting young adults no matter their interests. We can’t control their actions and we’re not equipped to even if we could. But we can encourage them and advise them. As we do, we get to experience the joy of their successes along with the pain of their failures.

We want our kids to wrestle with God.

Our kids want to win at wrestling, so that’s what we want for them. But it’s not the main thing we want or what they need. We want them to do whatever they do for God’s glory. We want them to train and compete for God’s glory and under his guidance. We want them to wrestle in his presence.

If they’re going to wrestle, they need to wrestle with God.

Our kids are also at a pivotal moment in their lives transitioning from children to adults. They must take hold of their own faith during this time. And faith can be a struggle. The world will throw them with hard questions for which there are no easy answers. Like every other authentic Christian, they will have to come to grips with a dynamic God who’s bigger than their parents knew. They will need to cling to him through dark nights of trial to learn of him at the break of day.

They will need to wrestle with God.

I’m Nathan, their dad. I created this site to coach my kids in wrestling with God. Maybe it will help you too.
